Thursday, September 5th, 2013. Garnet Lake to Minaret Creek

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” --John Muir
Today we wish we would have skipped Minaret Falls!!

We were up today around 7:30am.  We have decided to set an alarm each day so that we can get up and have a leisure morning around camp vs hurrying to get out of camp.  I feel like I said this every morning but this one was my favorite camp so far!  We planned on going to Reds Meadow Resort tomorrow for lunch so we wanted to get as close to Devil's Postpile National Monument

We were hoping the sky wasn't trying to tell us that we would have a bad weather day.
We found pretty flowering plants along the trail!

Views of Garnet Lake as we head out for the day...

The Wenk book talked about a 'swimming-pool-sized pond that warms up enough by midsummer for pleasant bathing'...pretty sure we weren't gonna get any bathing done here!

I am guessing this is Shadow Creek...not positive though.

The signs in this section of the trail.

A 'Handsome' Footbridge according to Wenk

A sign points the way...

I am not sure if this is Shadow Lake...or Rosalie Lake

A marker in the tree...

We took a lunch break...and I think it Gladys Lake.  It was crystal clear...
and I attempted to take a swim...didn't get very far!

And another deer!!!

Not sure what this is!

This area had a bad storm a few years back and really big trees were down.
We were impressed by how clear the trail was even with the huge downed trees.
There were a few blocking the trail but most had been cleared away!

The log bridge bringing us into camp.  It was 3:15pm and we were into camp very early.  We were very close to Devil's Postpile National Monument however we didn't know how long the trail was so we decided to go to Minaret Falls instead.  I had written down that it was a 1/2 mile north on the PCT.

Jason half in Inyo National Forest and half in Devils Postpile National Monument

And that was a waste of time!!!  The Falls weren't really running and it wasn't an impressive sight to see.  But we did run into the Siblings on this section and chatted with them for a while!

And the best part of the day: meeting up with the Travellingfoxes for dinner by the Creek!
Great Company, Great Stories & a Great Dinner!!  Lights out around 9:45pm.

**The mileage from this point on is based off of the Wenk book.
I had 3 different sources that provided mileage and none were consistent!

Miles Hiked Today:  14.1   Total Miles Hiked:  84.5     Total JMT Miles Hiked: 55.6
Elevation: 9700 down to 8750 back up to 9575 down to 8100
