Monday, September 9th, 2013. Hilgard Fork Trail Junction/Lake Italy to MTR southern cut-off

“The sun shines not on us but in us.” --John Muir

Today was one of my favorite lakes!!

We got out of camp around 9:15am.  First was the Hilgard Creek crossing.  The plan was to take an morning break at Marie Lakes then go up and over Selden Pass to finally camp by Muir Trail Ranch.

First Glimpse of Marie Lake.  I wanted to camp here last night but it wasn't going to work with our re-supply tomorrow.  So we decided to take a very early break and play some cribbage!

Looks like a good spot...

Do you smell that?  That sure does smell like a skunk.
Wait...make that two skunks.

Starting to get concerned with my shoes--I had holes starting.

More pictures of one of my favorite lakes.

At Seldon Pass, elevation 10,870.

Looking towards Heart Lake and a close up once we were there.

Thinking this is Sallie Keyes Lakes

We were commenting on how we hadn't seen a deer in
a few days and then we looked up...

To continue on with my Purist Hike, we skipped the Northern cut off to Muir Trail Ranch
or Florence Lake and continued to the Southern cut off.  The map showed some
camps along the trail.  You can see Jason down in camp.

Once again we were in camp early--around 4pm.
We found a great spot on the San Joaquin River to enjoy the rest of the day.

And had a deer across the River too!

Miles Hiked Today:  13.4   Total Miles Hiked:  142.6    Total JMT Miles Hiked: 109
Elevation: 9320 up to 10880 back down to camp at 7880.
This is the lowest we will be on the trail from here on out.
