Saturday, September 7th, 2013. Deer Creek to Silver Lake

“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.” -- John Muir

Today was suppose to be a day with great swimming holes...according to 'The Kitchen Table Plan'

A typical morning around camp....got on the trail around 9am.  The next section of the trail was one of the few dry sections so we were going to carry extra water in the packs-which meant extra weight.  I usually hiked with one liter of water.  Jason had a little more than that.  A liter of water is a little over 2 pounds.  Our packs were probably around 35 pounds at this point so the extra water was probably going to add 5-8 pounds to the packs.  Deer Creek to Duck Lake was a climb of almost 1000 feet and I wasn't looking forward to the extra weight.

Couldn't help but take a picture of the sideway growing tree

Views along the trail...it was along this section that we dumped our extra water.
It wasn't hot out so we filled up and got rid of the extra weight!

One of the crazy Runners on the trail!
The fastest record for the trail is 3 1/2 days.

There was a bird on the trail that would get very agitated if you were in his area.
Think it is a Clark's Nutcracker.  hey would fly back & forth and make a distinct sound.
This was the only picture we could get of it!

Views of Purple Lake from the trail.

I don't know what lake this is:  thinking it is looking back at Purple Lake and Jason on the trail...

We decided to stop for lunch at Lake Virginia.  I was convinced that
today was the day I was going swimming in the lake.

And maybe not..sitting on a rock with my feet in the water was enough for me!
The siblings joined us for a lunch break...and he wasn't chicken like me.

Few more pictures before getting back on the trail...

Heading into Tully Hole & Cascade Valley.

Still looking good after a week on the trail...

Bridge over Fish Creek.  The trail follows the creek were there are deep swimming holes.

Of course, it wasn't until we saw these views that we realized we missed the swimming holes!
Jason is the little speck of orange in the left picture.

Rock hopping across the water!  We didn't get our feet wet but I am sure we would have earlier in the season.  I am pretty sure this is Squaw Lake.

Vermilion Valley Resort is a very popular resupply stop.
In good years, they have a ferry running across Lake Edison.
This year it was stopped by the time we were hiking.
The had this sign on the trail alerting hikers!

There are quite a few lakes along the trail here... I think the last one is Chief Lake.
Not sure of the other two.

Trying to set up the camera to get a self-portrait.
Learned later that the camera was taking pics!

Silver Pass was our first pass in a few days.
It was the highest elevation on the trail in 3 days.

And Silver Lake.  We decided to call it a night here...now off to find a campsite!

I found this site...Jason agreed it looked good!!!

More wildlife sightings...or a varmit.

Sunset over Silver Lake

Enjoying camp and the view
