The day we were done!

What an absolutely amazing trip!  It was everything I thought it would be.  While having our burger and fries, we were able to book a room that night in Las Vegas so we decided to get in the car and go!  First was a stop at the Lone Pine Post Office for my box I of smellies that I had mailed ahead since this couldn't stay in the car at Whitney Portal.  Things I wish I would have packed: pumice stone for my feet, fingernail polish remover, fingernail polish, shave cream, razor.  Oh well...that just meant a stop at Walmart!

We drove thru Death Valley and was amazed that a few hours ago we were at the highest point of the 48 states at 14,000+ feet of elevation...and now we were at -200 feet.  There was construction in Death Valley that has us parked for about 30 minutes so I used the opportunity to start sorting the backpacks.  Nothing like spreading all your stuff all over the road!  At least on the trail, people understood why camp looked like it did.  Out there, the people looked at us like we were crazy...little did they know!

We stopped at Walmart in Pahrump for some necessities and I told Jason to call his parents while I ran in.  Once I was done, we got back on the road again.  It didn't take long for the jerk cop in Pahrump to pull us over since talking on the cell phone while driving is illegal in Nevada.  He saw the sleeping bags spread out in the backseat, we explained what we had just done and that we had been out of contact for 19 days so we were just checking in.  Too bad--it was our responsibility to know the law in the state you are driving--plus we live in a boarder state so we definitely should have known, after all-it's not like we were from out East.  What?  That made no sense but the cop didn't care.
Oh well, we weren't going to let that stop our fun!

We got to Vegas and checked in at our favorite casino, The Orleans.  Hey, can't beat free nights!
We stopped by the liquor store for a celebratory bottle of champagne!
We even had fancy glasses...well, at least after the trail they were.

Before I hopped in the shower....aaaahhhhh, a real shower...with hot water.
I took one last picture of the braids & the dirty feet...and then hopped in the shower.
30 minutes later, I let Jason take one :)
